This was for a swap I hosted, “Instant Postcard - Polaroid/Instax”. In my new[ish] room I have an instant photo wall, with photos of my friends, landscapes, and the two instant postcards I’ve received from Swap Bot before. Looking forward to seeing what my partner sends me!

This was for “GROUP: C+P Postcard: Paper Quilt”. I’ve been thinking about quilting for a while now. I have changed dress size but still love the fabric of some of my old dresses etc., but have decided that I’ll probably never be that size again and that my dress sense has changed. SO, I thought about quilting. I got a book from the library about it. Problem is, my sewing machine makes weird rat’s nests of thread, despite me checking the tension, and I’m not that good at sewing anyway. Secondly, I’m impatient. Sometimes this works well for other art projects, but sewing? Not so much. Same with this postcard - fun to try once but it needed to be precise and measured so I struggled a bit!

This was a postcard I made for “GROUP: My One-Word PC”. I chose the word ‘compassion’, and my reasons for doing so I explained on the back of the postcard. I drew a stencil-like version of the word on the back of some recycled thin card with a nice pattern and cut it out with a stanley knife. Those knives, I have found, hate corners. Sent in a handmade recycled envelope sealed with a J that I inexplicably bought for novelty value.. damn my stationery affection.

This was for “GROUP: “Rainy Day” Mail Art”, which I signed up to twice! I decided to make a basic mini-zine A5 size with my recipe, puzzle etc., along with some tea and decorated envelope.

So, these were made for the “GROUP: MAY: A Booklet of Artistamps #3" swap. It really was a challenge, and took longer than expected. Once again, having to produce three booklets of equal quality was difficult. I think I have a short attention span sometimes! It was great though. I started by drawing beetles, scanning the images, mounting them on to self adhesive paper, cutting them out with my new stamp punch, then re-mounting them onto new backing paper [recycled from the Post Office!] having peeled them off the original backing, attaching the backing into a booklet and making a cover. Oops, that was long winded. I got awesome stuff in return, and am signed up to do this all over again pretty soon!

Phew! That’s a lot of pictures. I spent rather a long time on this swap. It was for “GROUP: matryoshka in a baggie”. I sent a handmade recycled notebook with a painted cover, some self-adhesive artistamps in a booklet, a blank handmade card with envelope, decorated box with shop-bought matryoshka decorated fabric tape and recycled-paper leaf confetti, an Instax photo of the dolls I used for reference and a shop-bought wooden doll keyring. I didn’t get particularly good feedback for this, which I think has taught me that if I’m going to spend ages on a handmade swap then I should be in a hand-made specific swap, rather than sender’s choice. I did have masses of fun making the things though!

Made for the Butterfly Anarchist’s “TBA Mailing Label Street Art" swap. The swap was sort of supposed to be done using mailing labels etc. from the Post Office, but the UK post offices didn’t have anything suitable so I made my own labels using self-adhesive paper with a faux-postage style. They were fun and got some slogans out of me. Art wise, though, it can be hard for me to focus when I have to produce multiples. I think I had to make 15 in total!

My second foray into the Zentangle. This was for Zentangle Your Favourite Animal. Obviously, it’s a cat =^_^=

These are officially my first ‘zentangles’, but I’ve been drawing like this occasionally for years. ‘Zentangle’ seems to be some sort of term invented by some people to try to get money out of craft people. It’s a glorified, geometric-style doodle! But anyway, I thought I’d give it a go. It was kinda fun but not really my style I don’t think.

These are the two notebooks for the first swap I hosted on SB - Earth Day Recycled Notebook. Everyone had to make a notebook made entirely from recycled papers. I used mainly envelope paper [which I love!] which is patterned on one side and blank on the other. What I received was awesome, too!
